Project Pup (Project PUP Ocala, a 501(c) Non-Profit organization) was founded in 1987 BY Dr. Wm. F. Hogan Jr. an Ocala Veterinarian. At that time there were three nursing homes in Marion County and just a handful of members who visited them on a weekly basis, sometimes more than once as time allowed.

Dr. Hogan continues as a special advisor to the group which has grown greatly. Many of the dogs are adopted or rescued from various agencies. Several show dogs participate as does one field trial champion.

More than a dozen nursing homes and assisted living facilities are now visited on a regular basis. PUP participates In the Senior Services Picnic in the spring.

In the fall of 2005 members took on a new project where they provide, at no cost, weekly deliver of pet food to the neediest shut ins who receives Meals on Wheels. PUP also participated in an Ocala drive to send food and supplies to pets rescued in New Orleans.

A yard and bake sale is held in April each year to help fund the Pet Meals on Wheels program which is supported entirely by the generosity of pet lovers’ donations.

In October 2005 Project PUP and four participating dogs were inducted into the Florida Animal Hall of Fame in recognition of their long time participation in the companion animal program. We are very proud of them.
